concert review: The Script Live in Manila!

This one took me so long to compose. In the countless ways I could tell what has happened during that memorable night, I clearly had difficulty organizing what and how to share my The Script experience.

We proceeded immediately to Araneta after the press conference to be able to prepare and get briefed by the production staff. That was around 4pm and the lines outside the coliseum were already long! So 6:00 pm arrived and the gates were opened. When I got inside the VIP/patron area, I was amazed at the size of the crowd and the tension and excitement could really be felt in the air. And then the lights were down – and one by one the spotlight was on on each of The Script’s members. No front act, just pure The Script performance from their two albums. My sister and I enjoyed the performances from the 4th song onwards (we got work to do, you know? ). There were a lot of spine-tingling moments – I def had goosebumps when the crowd sang the first verse of “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and Danny is spot on when he said that “Filipino fans love sing-alongs”. Oh yeah! The crowd sang with the band in almost all their songs. Now that’s another sincere crowd, much like the one in the Yellowcard concert. Anyway, onto the pics -

This is the stall where The Script sold their official merchandise. I wonder if it was also sold out?

We just stayed/stood near the control booth for an awesome view from the center. The sophisticated lights and audiovisual presentations left me in awe. I commend The Script team for creating a beautiful stage and lights setup that definitely presented the band very well.

I actually thought we will never be able to get a photo with the band. But thank heavens LA saw us just in time and thus, here’s our treasured pic.

I was also able to make Danny and Glen sign my ID (wohooooo!) after this photo op. Another awesome moment!

The Script is not at all selfish with their time and attention. They really give importance to their fans – I learned that they chatted a bit with some of the fans during the meet n greet and it’s not the usual harried lining up of people and the MnG’s over in a click of the camera. Cool, right? And really humbling

Celeb sightings during the concert – Mayor Junjun Binay of Makati City with a pretty sizeable entourage, the Bb. Pilipinas beauties, Agot Isidro and Manu Sandejas, Mylene Dizon and Ira Cruz, Direk Rowell Santiago, Kean Cipriano, Hayden Kho and Dra. Vicki Belo, Anne Curtis, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Liz and Laureen Uy, Richard Gutierrez and Nicole Andersson.

I think I’ll have to end this post. The Script in Manila is truly unforgettable, definitely not “Nothing”".

Suffice it to say that I felt inadequate when I learned that you are 25 years old now (I’m a year older) and you are THAT brilliant a musician.Hahaha!

Seriously though, congratulations on being on Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People! I totally agree with B.O.B when he said that when you perform, “it’s a straight up, classic performance“. That’s exactly what I meant when I blogged about your concert in Manila and said that “each song is a different musical experience” and you just showed in that concert that “you are TRULY a musician“, an exceptional one.

Again, congratulations! And you can really groove! (this is about the Lazy Song vid with Poreotics. Loved the funny choreo!)

This is hoping Bruno Mars really gets to read this post.LOL.

The Script Live in Manila PressCon

This press conference is a dream come true (my sister surely knows what I mean on this). We were so stoked when we learned that we are going to help out our friends from Dayly Entertainment in arranging The Script Live in Manila’s press conference and media coverage. My sister is a HUUUUGGGEEE fan and it is an honor to be working for them. And so the fateful day arrived and it’s definitely one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life. The decision that I will be the one to introduce the band was made during our cab ride to EDSA Shang. I wrote my spiel WHILE in the taxi and just hoped for the best. When the road management informed us to standby because the band is about to arrive, there was about 5 minutes of silence and anticipation that I quietly said “Pwede pong huminga”, resulting in a few chuckles. All those tense moments spent waiting for the band to arrive at the Mactan Ballroom vanished when The Script arrived in a very relaxed demeanor, it’s as if you’re talking to an acquaintance. My sister Virna and Yam made a remarkable job of ensuring no gaps and preparing who will be the next member of the press to ask questions. Danny talked (and answered) more than Glen and Mark. It’s quite apparent that the band is excited to perform that night and they are happy for the warm reception they are receiving from the Philippines. Honestly, the presscon was a blur to me (I WAS SO NERVOUS) but I definitely recall (and love) the last question on “how The Script will present themselves to those that do not know them yet”. Danny answered that their music is their handshake, that it will be the one to allow the non-fans to know them. I was itching to add that “yes, music is indeed a universal language” to end the presscon, but shyness got the better of me.

Finally! An English version of their song! Yaayyy! (Plus they’ll be here in June)

There’s a tad too much autotune though (oh the works of Will.I.Am) but since it’s a dance song, then it’s quite acceptable. Overall, I’m just stoked that they finally have a full English translation of their single.
